Team Picks: Our Perfect Summer Days ☀️

Summer’s not just for markets—it’s also for making the most of long days, warm evenings, and a little time to unwind. We asked the team: “What’s your idea of the perfect summer day?”

Oxana: My ideal summer day starts with the sound of birds outside the window, coffee on the patio, the feeling of bare feet on the grass, a midday rain shower, and a drive through farmland at sunset.

Janet: My husband and I are cruising the seawall on our bikes, the ocean breeze in our faces, setting the tone for a carefree day. Stopping for lunch at a cozy spot with a view of the water, savoring the moment and the food. Ending our ride at the dog beach in Kitsilano, to dip our toes in the cool ocean, and to lounge in the sun.

Frank: For me, it starts with a peaceful walk along the seawall, taking in everything this incredible city has to offer. There’s a special moment when you climb the stairs toward English Bay the ocean stretching out before you, the gentle buzz of the city behind you that makes me feel deeply grateful to live in Vancouver and in Canada. I like to cap it off with a Body Energy smoothie, loaded with spinach and all the healthy goodness I don’t always make time for. Simple moments, nourishing food, and a reminder of just how fortunate we are that’s my perfect summer day.

Hailey: A perfect summer day for me is waking up around 8am and meeting with friends to do a longish run or bike, followed by a coffee at a local coffee shop and a big homemade brunch afterwards (probably banana oat pancakes and fresh fruit). Ideally, I would go home afterwards to change/recoup and meet with friends again later in the day. We would make dinner and go for a hike to a nice camping spot to hangout and spend the night.

Adam: A perfect summer day for me starts with a morning hike, followed by an afternoon spent fishing and swimming in a beautiful interior lake with my girlfriend and our dog, Kona. The day usually ends with an obligatory stop for ice cream – the perfect way to close out a summer day.

Ray: The perfect summer day in Naramata: “Early morning 9 hole golf with Mary-Ellen, followed by brunch at the course.  A relaxing swim with some chill time reading by our pool in the early afternoon.  Then hit a couple wineries in the late afternoon.  An early evening walk by the lake with our dog Timber then a BBQ at our place.  Cards and watching the glorious sunset from our deck.

Alex: After reading everyone’s submissions, I felt like I should add some variety to my day, but that wouldn’t be true. My perfect summer day is simple: salsa dancing with my friends in Robson Square, all day long. That’s it.

Olena: A perfect summer day begins with a quiet paddle on the ocean at sunrise, coffee in hand, and the dog by your side. Then it’s up the Grouse Grind, legs burning, heart full, and views that make it all worth it. The day ends with the sun setting, and everything feels just right.

Tony: My idea of a perfect summer day is being with family and friends on the island near the ocean, enjoying the sunshine and the simple joys of summer. We’d spend time kayaking, sharing a relaxed barbecue, and cooling off with slices of fresh watermelon. The evening would wind down around the fire pit with drinks, laughter, and maybe even a board game under the stars—pure, easygoing bliss.

David: The perfect summer day…. Enjoying a  6km morning run – along  Trail Bay on the Sunshine Coast  –  with the temperature at 16 celcius…not too cold, not  too hot….just right! A breakfast bowl of granola, Greek yogurt, blueberries…and a big heap of cinnamon…, followed by lazily relaxing on the outdoor patio couch flipping between the current events of the day, interesting stories to read….and of course, sports – looking back at yesterday’s highlights and looking ahead to which baseball teams will likely survive the pennant race and qualify for the post-season. A morning walk with Heather- chatting about whatever comes to mind.   The rest of day is spent doing any number of things – or nothing really at all. Dinner at Joe’s on the Beach (with fish ‘n chips of course!), watching the sun glisten on the water that surrounds the Davis Bay Pier as it begins to set for the evening.   Capping the day off by watching a show with Heather that will either make me laugh or cry (or both) while enjoying a glass of wine.
