Making the Most of the Last Days of Summer

As the summer season slips away, our team wanted to share a few of the places that help us slow down, recharge, and appreciate everything Vancouver has to offer as the seasons change. We hope one of these inspires your next adventure.

Tony

I’m making the most of these last few weeks of summer with motorcycle rides around the Lower Mainland and up the Sea-to-Sky Highway, spending time with family, and cheering Caleb on as his soccer season kicks back off. Some of my favourite spots include the seawall from Kitsilano through Spanish Banks and from Granville Island. For food, Ocean Goose and Green Leaf Sushi are family favourites, and I love the patios at Tap & Barrel Bridges and the Wicklow Pub overlooking False Creek. If you’re looking for a hidden gem, I’d recommend the Othello Tunnels or Little Qualicum Falls on the Island. Both make for beautiful family day trips. Before summer ends, I’m hoping to fit in a few more motorcycle rides, some golf, and lots of quality family time before the busy fall season begins.

Frank

I’m making the most of these last few weeks of summer with walks along the seawall usually with a Rain or Shine vanilla ice cream in hand—and evenings on the patio at Reflections at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia with family or friends. There’s something about a beautiful Vancouver summer evening, a great meal and even better conversation that reminds me to slow down and appreciate the people and place around me. Before summer ends, I’m hoping to squeeze in a few more sunsets, a little more time outside and as many of those simple moments with family and friends as possible.

One of my favourite ways to spend these last few weeks of summer is swimming at Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen. When the tide’s coming in, the sand warms up the water and it’s gorgeous. In August, I love heading out to Westham Island to Emma Lea Farms for the fresh fruit and ice cream. For a patio, Gracie’s Next Door in Tsawwassen is a favourite, with live music many evenings and great food. My go-to walk is Brunswick Point in Ladner, a quiet dike walk with views stretching from the Gulf Islands to the North Shore Mountains. As a hidden gem, I’d point golfers to Point Roberts Golf & Country Club. With no water restrictions, it stays lush and green all summer. Before summer ends, I’m hoping to get up to our recreational home in Naramata, and fingers crossed the Okanagan gets some relief from the fires.

Alex

My favourite way to enjoy these last few weeks of summer is salsa dancing at Robson Square with friends. In August, I love catching a Canadians game at Nat Bailey Stadium. For food, Ask For Luigi has the best pasta in town and is my go-to spot. My favourite way to unwind is a relaxing bike ride around Stanley Park, and for a hidden gem, I’d recommend the Bayside Lounge in English Bay. Before summer wraps up, I’m hoping to spend more time with my older sister while she’s in town.

Hailey

My favourite way to enjoy these last few weeks of summer is just being outdoors with friends — lots of local bikes, hikes, and patios. In August, I love getting out to the Squamish/Whistler area; there’s always something to do and it’s a nice break from the city. For a patio, I’m a fan of Isetta Café in West Vancouver, Batch in Kits, or really any restaurant patio along Yew St near Kits Beach. My favourite hike is Pump Peak at Mount Seymour. I recently did a sunset hike there and it’s become one of my favourites in the city. Before summer ends, I’ve got a few backpacking trips planned that I’m looking forward to, and I’d also love to fit in an Island ride.

Oxana

My favourite way to enjoy these last few weeks of summer is relaxing on my home patio with friends or a good book. In August, I love visiting the flower farms around the Lower Mainland. For a great meal, Gotham Steakhouse is my top pick. My favourite spot for a walk is Crescent Beach in South Surrey, especially before 8 a.m. before it gets busy. As a hidden gem, I’d recommend Wendel’s Bookstore & Café in Fort Langley. Before summer ends, I’m hoping to fit in a swim in the ocean.

Olena

My favourite way to enjoy these last few weeks of summer is spending time outdoors with my dog and making the most of the sunny evenings. In August, I love heading to Deep Cove for the beautiful views, sunset, and relaxed summer vibe. My favourite hikes are the Grouse Grind and the Quarry Rock hike in Deep Cove, the view at the end is always worth it. For a hidden gem, I’d recommend Kanaka Creek Regional Park in Maple Ridge. Before summer ends, I’m hoping to squeeze in one more hike and make a few more memories with my daughter.

Janet

My favourite way to enjoy these last few weeks of summer is riding the seawall on our cruiser bikes and hanging out at Kits Dog Beach. One of my favourite places in the summer is heading up to Whistler where there are endless options for exploring the outdoors. For a patio, Cactus Club in English Bay is hard to beat, overlooking the ocean and mountains. My go-to spot to relax is soaking up the sun at Kits Dog Beach. For a hidden gem, I’d recommend Batch at Kits Beach, a great social spot overlooking the water. Before summer ends, I’m hoping to visit my brother’s lakefront cabin on Sesekinika Lake in Ontario.

Adam

My favourite way to enjoy these last few weeks of summer is spending as much time as possible at Kalamalka Lake, the colours at this time of year can’t be beat. In August, I love sneaking off to the Sunshine Coast for a weekend; it’s close to the city but feels a world away. For a patio, a table with a water view at Miku is never a bad choice in the summer. My go-to hike is the Grouse Grind, hard to beat the view at the top. And for a hidden gem, I’d recommend Nero Tondo on Powell; it’s a tight squeeze, but sitting at the chef’s bar and letting them guide you through the evening is a real treat.
